Not quite as cold but cold enough to make your life suck if you did not have heat/electricity. November to March.. average day is high of 40, low of 10. And yes, we get snow. The closer that one is to the Sierras, the more snow you get. The snowiest point in North America is the western slope of the Sierra Nevadas (just east of Sacramento). If you travel north or east of Reno... it is not simply fewer homes... it is no homes, no roads, no fences, nothing.
